Photography course

One of the many benefits of working in a hub / community building is the opportunities that it can provide you.

Lifted were asked if they would like to take part in a community project called creative confidence.

The aim of the project was to build carers confidence through new skills, friendships and also through physical wellbeing.

The aim was to bring Lifted, L.I.F.E and tone and trim come together to complete a 6 week course of gym membership with tone and trim whilst learning how to use and produce photography standard photos with L.I.F.E the course would be offered to Lifted carers and service users along with other members of the community building.

The course took place every Thursday. Our very own core staff members Sue and Kate attended the course along with our carers. They bonded with our carers through a wide range of new tasks and experiences. We got to work as teams to set up a photo, to understand how lighting and shutter speeds work. We were able to review the photos at the end of the session on what we love about the photos each of us had taken that day.

Each of us also took part in a weekly gym session with tone and trim. Each session was tailored to match each person’s own ability and it was a boost in confidence to see everyone attending but as a group.

At the end of the six weeks, the whole group asked if it could be extended as the sessions were becoming the highlight of their week.

It was decided that the course would be extended for an additional 10 weeks but we would then have a presentation at the end of the project where all the photos that had been taken by the group would then be placed around the community building for all to see.

I think one of the biggest achievements from this project, was following the course two of the women got married shortly after, and both ask members from the group to be their photographers for the day
