Bringing others together

“We are just a bunch of chatty people who like to walk”

Hi #Liftedfamily, you might be shocked again to hear that I left my office and went outside into the real world again.

This time it was not only to catch up with our Wednesday walkers but to also catch up with Carole who is part of GM Walking who funded the walking group this year.

You may not have known this but our walking group was set up by the carers and has been something that they have volunteered their time for every week and it has been really rewarding to be able to give back to this strong volunteer team that we have lifted.

As always the group has two routes: a slow and shorter walk and then the faster and longer walk. This time I was asked to join the longer walk by walking buddy to keep her company along with my father in law. They soon ditched me and went on ahead of everyone just in their own little world, so I stayed at the back doing my own little pace. My favourite funny man stayed with me and kept me company; I really love hearing his stories and him sharing his funny jokes with me. I know I’m always up for a laugh when we are together.

Carol went on the shorter walk with our walking leads and we managed to catch up for a drink after our walks. I think from all the feedback from the walking group Carole is the newest member of our walking group. Welcome Carole to the madness that is Lifted.

I think the biggest take away that we both got from the two walks was that even though it’s about being outside and doing physical walking it’s so much more than that. It’s the bigger picture of making friends and socialising with others and removing the isolation wards that carers have around them. Isolation is a massive mental health issue for carers and Lifted want to do everything we can to remove this for our carers.

If you ever feel like you want to come for a walk but need a little extra helping hand, reach out to me info@liftedmcr.org.uk and we can go together or we can buddy you up with one of our other walking buddies that we have.
