Hi #LiftedFamily
What a week last week was.
We did another joint walk with Stepping out with Carers, this joint walk included carers who use the services of Lifted, Carers Manchester, Ramblers, Manchester Carers Forum, Wigan and Leigh Carers centre, Gaddum and Sport England
In all, there were over 40 carers who turned up for the walk. It was an amazing joint walk and one where not only do you get to add to your daily step counts but also get to catch up or meet new people and have a lovely chat on the way round.
I know at Lifted we always say that we will do our walks no matter the weather, but you would have thought that the weather man would have made it a bit sunny for us?
It was that wet, the waterproof coats, overalls and umbrellas were a must and for those of you who are brave enough maybe your swimming costumes for the giant puddles that covered the park.
Mr Weatherman did change his mind and the sun came out as we were finishing the walks but, hopefully next time he does it on time for us?
Lifted hosted the joint walk this month and the group was split into two groups. Each group had it’s own two lifted walking leaders along with the ramblers walking leads as support
· shorter walk (Flo and Mr C)
· longer walk (Sue and Sam)
The walks offer all carers the opportunity to choose the best walk for them that day. Each group has to the opportunity to ask for breaks as we go along on the walk, so there is no rush to get around on the walks. We do it in our time.
This week’s walk, I went on the shorter walk round the park and I got talking to a new friendly face that came on the walks for the first time.
During our conversation it really did remind me that not only do the walks help with our physical needs but I think more importantly is the mental health aspect. It’s such a good way to socialise and it helps reduce the loneliness that we can experience as a carer.
Most of the time as a carer we don’t really talk to others outside the house and sadly our families sometimes might not give us the social needs we are looking for after, but this hour walk just flew by while we talked and it was such a wonderful conversation.
Forgetting about the age gap, we found that one of our biggest interests was books and how they are adapted to films or TV shows.
1) If you watch the film before reading the book, do you picture the actor?
2) If you read the book first, did they pick the correct people?
I’m currently reading the Anne Rice books about the vampire Lestat. I have watched the film so many times I’m sure I could quote it word for word, but now I’m reading the books I don’t picture Tom Cruise, he plays a great version of Lestat but not the one from the books for (Same with Stuart Townsend, but that’s another story for another day)
But if I said Poirot from Agatha Christie how many who read the books will also picture David Suchet?
Is there anyone else you think they casted right/wrong in a movie based on who you have in your head after reading the book?
After the walk and the very interesting talk, we were all invited back to the Wythenshawe Park Café for a hot drink and soup, just what was needed after a walk in the rain. A massive thank you to the ladies in the café for catering us all.
Until next time, enjoy your walks and hopefully we will see you soon on our next walk
